Elementary Music

Students in grades K-4 meet for Music classes twice a week for 30 minutes.  Students learn about music through singing, playing instruments, movement, and various other activites and projects. 

Students also get the opportunity to be a part of the ministry of music during weekly school Masses sing for the Liturgies that their class plans.  Younger age groups get help from their older "Buddies". 

 K-4 Music     

Kindergarten Music

In Kindergarten Music, students focus on learning the basic fundamentals of music.  We spend time discussing the difference between our singing voices and other sounds we produce with our mouths.  We also discover more about music through playing instruments, movement/dancing, listening to different types of music, technology, and children's literature.  Students also begin to bulld their music vocabulary which will continue to grow throughout the years.

1st Grade Music

1st grade students continue to build their music skills that they have learned from Kindergarten Music.  Students continue to learn more about music in the world they live in through singing, playing instruments, listening to musical works, technology, and movement/dancing, and through children's literature.  Students also continue to grow in their music literacy by reviewing past vocabulary words and musical symbols and learning new words and musical symbols. 

2nd Grade Music

2nd grade students continue to build their music skills that they have learned from Kindergarten and 1st grade Music.  Students continue to learn more about music through singing, playing instruments, listening to musical works, technology, and movement/dancing, and children's literature.  Students also continue to grow in their music literacy by reviewing past vocabulary words and symbols and learning new words and musical symbols. 

3rd Grade Music

3rd grade students continue to build their music skills that they have learned from their previous Music classes.  Students continue to learn more about music through singing, playing instruments, listening to musical works, technology, and movement/dancing, and children's literature.  Students also continue to grow in their music literacy by reviewing past vocabulary words and symbols and learning new words and musical symbols. 

3rd grade students also get the opportunity to learn more about the musical instruments that make up an orchestra.  Students are able to see, hear, and learn more about many of the instruments of the orchestra through technology and special guests that visit during Music time.  3rd graders complete a research project in music, and with collaboration through Computer class, students create a project about the instrument they researched.

4th Grade Music

4th grade students continue to build their music skills from previous classes to prepare to be
in Band and/or Choir in Middle School.   Students continue to learn more about music through singing, playing classroom instruments and the Recorder, listening to musical works,
technology, and movement/dancing, and children's literature.  Students also continue to grow in their music literacy by reviewing past vocabulary words and symbols and learning new words and musical symbols. 

4th grade students also get the opportunity to learn more about the different styles of
Classical Music and the composers who wrote music during those time periods.  4th graders
complete a research project in music, and with collaboration through Computer class, students create a project about a composer they researched.
